The blaze is part of the SQF complex, a series of lighting caused fires in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains of California. The fire was increasing in containment and then a weather change caused the fire to explode into massive bark beetle-killed pines, causing the fire to grow. Sadly, homes were lost in the Alpine Drive area and firefighters are working to save houses in the rural and remote Sequoia Crest area, near the Alder Sequoia grove and the 5th largest tree in the world. There are millions of trees killed by drought and ensuing bark beetle infestations in CA, and the Castle Fire is in part fueled by dead and down trees, living trees that are extremely dry, and dense undergrowth. Heat, drought, and an incredibly strong lightning storm combined with forest management, wildland urban interface construction, and climate change all coalesce on the peaks to create this surreal scene from California’s record setting wildfire siege. #CastleFire #SQFComplex #LongExposure #CAFire」9月15日 3時56分 - natgeointhefield
